Stay informed about your EPF nominations to ensure your savings are distributed according to your wishes. Here are some commonly asked questions:

1️⃣ What is the difference between Muslim and non-Muslim EPF nominations?

  • Muslim members: The nominee is known as a Wasi (Administrator). Their role is to distribute the EPF savings according to Faraid law among rightful beneficiaries.

➤ The nominee does not receive the savings directly.

  • Non-Muslim members: The nominee receives the designated portion directly as a beneficiary.

2️⃣ What happens if one of the multiple nominees dies before the EPF member?

  • Only the portion assigned to the deceased nominee becomes invalid.
  • Surviving nominees will still receive their respective shares.
  • The invalid portion becomes un-nominated savings and will go to:
    • The member’s next of kin, or
    • The appointed administrator of the member’s estate.

📜 EPF Regulations 2001 – Regulation 7(3): The deceased nominee’s share forms part of the member’s estate, not the estate of the deceased nominee or surviving nominees.

3️⃣ What happens to unclaimed EPF savings?

  • Unclaimed savings remain with EPF.
  • They are transferred to the Registrar of Unclaimed Monies (ARB) only when the member reaches 100 years of age, based on their date of birth.

4️⃣ What if the nominee survives the member but dies before receiving the EPF money?

📜 EPF Regulation 9(3): The savings will be distributed to the estate of the deceased member as if no nomination was made or if the nomination failed under Regulation 8.

5️⃣ My EPF nominee is my ex-husband. Will the nomination be automatically revoked upon divorce?

  • No. EPF nominations made before marriage or divorce remain valid until you update them.
  • EPF does not automatically remove or alter nominations due to:
    • Marriage
    • Divorce
    • Death of a nominee

🛠️ Practical Tip: Always review and update your EPF nomination after major life events to ensure your savings go to the intended beneficiaries.

📜 Note on Wills:

  • A marriage automatically revokes any previous Will.
  • A divorce does not revoke your Will. ➡️ Update your Will after divorce to reflect your current intentions.

6️⃣ Do I need to submit a death certificate to change my EPF nomination?

  • ❌ No death certificate is required.
  • ✅ You can change or update your nomination anytime by completing a new KWSP 4 Form.
  • 📝 This will automatically revoke any earlier nomination.
